I had dinner last night with my friend Colleen from Heroine Chic. She is going through some things right now: just started a new job, moved house, runs her own business and more ‘stuff’ that is not to be shared here. She seemed in despair.
I relate to Colleen as a powerful, unstoppable kick-ass woman (which she is). Listening to her story, I was not sucked in. I met her when there was even more turmoil happening in her life and she was powerful in the midst of it all. I compare her to bamboo: flexible and strong! One of the strongest materials in nature.
While she was bitching (sorry Colleen), she also mentioned that she hadn’t slept as much as she usually does and that she also had neglected her Yoga practice.
She had not covered her BASICS for a while! And that weakened her. Not the circumstances in her life caused her to feel powerless, but the base was weak. Are you covering your basics?
I am talking about:
sleep
food
exercise
and whatever your basics are (spirituality, fun, connection, family, etc.).
The less basics we cover, the weaker we get and the more things are blown out of proportion. The mind will deflect from the basics and make you believe that you need to solve a BIG problem first. And that – of course – also applies to your work. I say: Don’t believe everything you think. Cover your basics for a week and then see which problems are still problems.
Oh – and after dinner, Colleen was fine. She is back to being her kick-ass self.
